Plastic surgeries done at Gangnam to make people look beautiful

Do you remember the song Gangnam Style by South Korean singer Psy which all of a sudden became a global hit? It was one of my personal favourites too- the lyrics and the peppy music still reverberates in my ears. But have you heard of Gangnam Beauty, lately?

๐Ÿ‘‰ What is Gangnam Beauty

Gangnam Beauty basically refers to someone who’s attractive but looks as if they went through a number of plastic surgeries for the perfect pretty face, a hot body, or maybe both. In short, you can call it plastic beauty!

The term, Gangnam Beauty comes from South Korea- the Plastic Surgery Capital of the World. Infact, it's no secret that South Korea has grown to be the Mecca for instant and permanent makeovers. And if we go by numbers alone, they too reveal that up to one-third of women in Seoul (and about half the women in their 20s) have gone under the knife to get the flawless face, and even body in some cases. From fixing protruding jawlines and mimicking the features like those of your favourite pop stars to rhinoplasty (nose job) and chin augmentation (perfect v-line chin) - you name it and the plastic surgery clinics there will serve it to you like a piece of cake. However, the difficult part is to choose one of the 500 or so clinics located inside Seoul’s Gangnam district; call it the Beverly Hills of Seoul.

๐Ÿ‘‰ The Coming of Gangnam Beauty

A few decades ago, plastic surgery was not as affordable, accessible, and acceptable in South Korea. Going under the knife was the prerogative of the wealthy elite, such as celebrities, and it wasn’t as confidently shared as it is today. Instead of radical transformation, the result too was subtle and it didn’t scream FAKE. Post-op patients preferred recovering undercover, not shopping around or attending work meetings in bandages and masks as can be seen now. It was with the boom of Seoul’s plastic surgery industry, cosmetic procedures became more common. It became increasingly popular to an extent that youngsters didn't mind showing it off either. A sight of bruised and swollen-faced men and women walking on the street with bandages is a common phenomenon. Infact going under the knife is considered to be the in-thing. It’s as common for them as going for a haircut - you book an appointment and within an hour’s time the corrective surgery is done. And mind you, in case of corrective procedures such as the double eyelid, which is one of the most common surgeries in Seoul, surgeon takes barely 15 minutes! Beauty is so much integrated into their lives that even Korean Dramas such as “My Id is Gangnam Beauty” (which apparently is a big hit) revolves around beauty and physical appearance of a girl.
However, there’s been a recent trend towards making people stay away from what’s come to be known as “Gangnam beauty,” a look that’s obviously man-made but how successful it gets, only time will tell.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Trend of Medical Tourists

Call them surgery tourists or medical tourists they flock from across the globe to Seoul and make up about a third of the business in South Korea. And interestingly, cosmetic transformations can be so radical that some of the hospitals have to offer ‘certificates of identity’ to foreign patients as they might need to convince immigration officers at the airport. And if you’ll surf for plastic surgery clinics in Seoul on Internet chances are you’ll come across names such as Cinderella Beauty Clinic and Well Aesthetics Clinic, etc. And the best ones are located in huge buildings with 10+ floors, with a few offering accommodations and airport transfers too.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Interested in Gangnam Beauty?

If you too are interested in getting plastic surgery procedure done in Korea, here's how to go about it.
Korea is one of the best places for high-quality and non-invasive plastic surgery procedures and as I’ve mentioned earlier, the results can be radical. Unlike other places where plastic surgery clinics are maximum two floors, in Seoul you’ll come across hospitals that are not just well-equipped but occupy up to ten plus floors each.
So, how to go about it? Here, I’ve listed a few handy tips that will help you to shortlist the best plastic surgeon in Seoul.

#Choose By Procedure
For any problem, Google is everyone’s favourite. Make sure you type keywords “(the procedure) reviews” or “(Plastic surgery clinic name) reviews” on the Google, and then take a call. For instance, if you want to get V line surgery, type V line surgery in Korea reviews. Don’t just check the first page, at least surf the results up to the third or fourth pages this makes sure that you get to know as much possible.

#Choose By Surgeon or Hospital Name
This is the second but most important step. While surfing read carefully some articles and reviews and recommendations. After shortlisting make a specific search on a particular surgeon or specific hospital. The ones with negative experience should not be considered.
Please remember Koreans use their last name first, so if you look up reviews in English, remember to try reversing the name’s order.

#Seek Online Consultation
After you’ve shortlisted few surgeons, contact them or clinics online and try and evaluate their services and compare. All the plastic surgery clinics in Korea offer free online consultation. If they don’t, strike them off your list.

#Plan Your Trip in Advance
Now that you are sure about the surgeon and hospital, you may plan your trip like booking accommodation and flights well in advance. Keep in mind that it takes around an hour by bus to get to the Gangnam area from the airport.

So next time when you come across doll face after doll face in Seoul you would know that’s the Gangnam Beauty walking down the street ๐Ÿ™Ž!!
